Your IBD Nutrition Advocates
Hi, we’re Kim and Maddie, the founders of Nourishing Nutrition and the EATS for IBD™ Resource.
Kim and Maddie began working together after Maddie was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. Maddie had acheived clinical remission using exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) and was looking for guidance about food and IBD. Kim helped Maddie transition to the SCD using her clinical knowledge and evidence based tools. Their friendship grew from a shared love of delicious food and passion for making life better for people with IBD.
Today, the two have become a powerhouse team, working to provide much-needed nutrition support and practical resources to those with inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis.
We want to empower you in your journey with IBD. Together, let's embrace the joy and well-being that is possible through delicious, nourishing food!

THE HOW TO IBD DIETITIAN
Hello! I'm Kim Braly and nutrition is my passion.
I believe every person with inflammatory bowel disease deserves personalized IBD nutrition and lifestyle guidance informed by evidence and clinical experience. That is how I became known as the “How to IBD Dietitian.”
From 2013-2018 I had the privilege of working with pediatric patients at Seattle Children’s Hospital with gastrointestinal conditions. The GI nutrition-related issues I saw ranged from food allergies to complex motility disorders, tube feeding management, and chronic disease. I specialized as an IBD research dietitian and co-created the IBD nutrition program with a fantastic multidisciplinary team.
I saw first-hand the powerful impact that nutrition plays in each person’s unique IBD journey and how it evolves with time. These memorable experiences led me to dedicate myself to empowering patients with IBD to live a joyful abundant life through nutrition. However, knowing about nutrition is only a small part. The larger piece is translating the research to your plate with ideas and nourishing recipes you can use to live your best life.
Creating EATS for IBD™ as your IBD kitchen helper became a professional mission. What started as a cookbook dream grew to be a dynamic online culinary resource with a supportive community for those living with IBD.
Our EATS for IBD™ Kitchen and Recipe Helper incorporates specific, research-informed strategies with need-to-know culinary concepts for IBD patients who are tired of not knowing how to nourish their bodies or may not know where to start. We have worked on EATS for IBD™ for years and it is an honor to share this invaluable resource with you.
If you are a professional and would like to discuss how EATS for IBD can be used in your practice, please send me an email or schedule a call.

IBD THRIVER & PATIENT ADVOCATE
Hi there! I'm Maddie Huwe, and I know firsthand how difficult and lonely life with IBD can be.
I was 13 years old when I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I learned to place my own NG tube and acheived remission using Exclusive Enteral Nutrition (EEN). Kim and I met at Seattle’s Children's Hospital, and she helped me introduce SCD foods into my diet. In my experience, food is more than fuel--it is an avenue to integrated, joyful wellbeing.
Over the years, I’ve found a passion for IBD advocacy and nutrition. I work with the ImproveCareNow learning network as an IBD leader, and I use my lived experienced to make life better for others who have IBD.
Now, I'm thrilled to share the culmination of creativity, dedication, and joy Kim and I have poured into our most recent project. Join us to explore the support and resources Eats for IBD has to offer!
Not sure what to eat when you feel unwell?
You're not alone!
It's hard to find nourishing and comforting food to eat when you don't feel well. While every belly is different, all bodies need nourishment when they are sick. Many IBDers find that some foods are more problematic than others during periods of illness. Using our experience with IBD and the current research, we compiled our suggestions for "belly-friendly" foods into this free playbook. Check it out!
